LaMar Gayles (MUSE '20) is this year's recipient of the Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation Award from the Graduate College for his Master’s thesis entitled, “Crafting and Forging The Black Diaspora: Black Histories in Jewelry.” Members of his thesis committee include Therese Quinn (MUSE), Faheem Majeed (Art), and Marcel Rosa-Salas (Business).
After his graduation from MUSE, LaMar curated an exhibition based on his thesis research, Divine Legacies in Black Jewelry, at the Metals Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, and has entered the Art Conservation and Preservation Studies Doctoral Program at the University of Delaware, where he will work with the renowned Winterthur collection.
