It is with deep sadness that the Department of Art History reports that Ross Edman passed away on May 28, 2017 in Holland Michigan. Edman was 80 years old and taught at UIC for thirty years from 1965-1995, after which time he became a valuable Emeritus faculty member. Edman was also an Honors College fellow from 1995-1998. Although he was especially valued for his expertise in Asian Art, he taught courses across the curriculum, including Introduction to Art and Art History and the survey of world art During his time at UIC, Edman was a much beloved teacher and mentor to our undergraduate students, winning the coveted Silver Circle Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1988. The award is given by students for the best faculty member in the College. In recognition for his engagement with our students, the Department of Art History established the Ross Edman Fund to support undergraduate students in art history through scholarships and travel for undergraduate research. Donations are being accepted in his honor through the University of Illinois Foundation.
