The Illinois Deaths in Custody Project 2016 (IDCP), an initiative developed collaboratively by Therese Quinn and Matthew Yasuoka (MUSE UIC), Erica Meiners (Northeastern Illinois University), and other Chicago-based activists and artists, has received the support of a Spring 2016 Dean’s Research Prize. Through the vehicle of an interactive website serving as both exhibit and memorial, IDCP documents, archives, highlights, and mourns the deaths of all people in custody in Illinois in 2016. Launching in March 2016, and inviting the online submission of death reports, eulogies, and other testimonies and documents, the project will gather and share data not available to the public elsewhere.
