UIC Maker Space welcomes Willy Chyr, Maker Space's newest artist-in-residence. Chyr is a pioneering artist working at the intersections of gaming, architectural design, and new media art. Chyr's research during the residency will focus on "exploring architecture and soundscapes within virtual spaces that contain physically-impossible geometry." Additionally, Chyr will look for "ways to manifest these ideas outside of a digital context, either through engagement or physical installations," continuously building connections between video games and other disciplines. Chyr's Maker Space project is organized in partnership with VGA Gallery.
Willy Chyr's work spans a variety of media, including web, print, and installation. Drawing inspiration from both cultural artifacts and scientific knowledge, Chyr creates platforms and systems that replicate processes found in nature. As an installation artist, he has exhibited at the Lawrence Arts Center, Telus Spark, and High Concept Laboratories. Other notable projects include a limitedāedition art label for Beck's Beer and a crowdsourced novel, The Collabowriters. Chyr holds a B.A. degree in Physics and Economics from the University of Chicago and lives and works in Chicago.
Dates for lectures, workshops, and other events to be announced soon. Learn more about Chyr's work here.
