UIC Art Professor Tony Tasset has works from his Spill Paintings series on display at the Kavi Gupta Gallery in Chicago through July 5. The gallery is located at 832 W. Washington.
Chicago artist Tony Tasset, who is featured in this year’s Whitney Biennial, has gained national recognition for his varied multimedia works, which are usually playful, often pop-influenced and sometimes downright weird. Tasset returns to the Kavi Gupta Gallery, 832 W. Washington, with the latest installment in his “Spill Paintings” series, which began in 2012. In these pieces, in which bottles of cleaners and other household products seem to have spilled onto the panels, Tasset explores the intersection of pop art, abstract expressionism and notions of commercial branding and mass marketing. The show opens with a public reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and runs thorugh July 5. Free. (312) 432-0708; kavigupta.com
