Bonnie Fortune: An Edge Effect

Join us for a special lecture by artist and writer Bonnie Fortune. Bonnie's talk will be themed around her recently published book, An Edge Effect: Art and Ecology In The Nordic Landscape. The book is a collection of interviews, case studies and original essays that form a handbook of contemporary environmental art practices in the Nordic region and beyond. This interdisciplinary project takes its name from the notion that the edge between two different ecologies is where the most biodiversity can be found. Whether chronicling artists working with urban gardens and edible plants, or with anti-nuclear activism, or the sounds of collapsing cities left behind by the coal industry, this book is a collection of approaches and possibilities for what life in the Anthropocene might be like and what could be done to shift us to other futures.

Bonnie Fortune is an artist and writer, currently based in the Midwestern United States. Her work and artistic research is focused on the intersection of art and the environment, with special attention to the social ecology. She works collaboratively with Brett Bloom as Let’s Remake and Lise Skou as Trade Test Site. She was a contributing member of the Compass Group in the Midwest Radical Culture Corridor, a regionally affiliated group of independent artists and activists focused on place. She has participated in exhibitions and publishing projects, like A Call to Farms and Deep Routes: the Midwest in All Directions.
