Lectures
School of Art and Art History
Too often we rush through museums and our lives trying to see and do as much as possible. The Mindfulness Monday, an adult program at the Art Institute of Chicago, is an opportunity to slow down, and engage with one work of modern or contemporary art through an extended looking exercise.
Mindfulness Monday seeks to calm the mind, construct knowledge through visual analysis, and allow visitors to set a positive intention for the week ahead. This talk seeks to discuss a program that is focused on cultivating a "looking practice". Using non-representational works of modern, and contemporary art, visitors will develop ways of looking at and interpreting art that can be employed independent of a museum educator.
Emily Beaver (obtaining her degree in Museum and Exhibition Studies) and John Szczepaniak (MFA) come together to share their art and research.
John Szczepaniak (MFA) often works between sculpture and video, exploring new modes of production to ask questions of what it means to live together today. Join the srtist in workshopping a number of ideas pertaining to his most recent work.
