Lands End exhibiting artists Claire Pentecost and Dan Peterman discuss their work and related issues in conversation with art and cultural critic Brian Holmes.
Landscape is often considered a quaint genre of art. Contrary to this facile perception, the works in Lands End reveal landscape to be one of the most pressing zones for contemporary art to negotiate. From territorial disputes and ecological calamities to problems around notions of "private" property, contemporary landscape is shaping artistic practices, and artists in turn are shaping the popular imaginary of the environment.
Lands End is co-curated by Zachary Cahill and Katherine Harvath. Presented in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Chicago and the University of Chicago’s Department of Visual Arts.
