NO CHILL
UIC School of Art & Art History Open House, Alumni Exhibition, and Ice Cream Social
Thursday November 8, 2018
5pm-10pm
400 S Peoria
Resting in the chilly beginnings of another Chicago winter, NO CHILL is the School of Art & Art History’s fall 2018 open house event featuring Chicago New Media 1973-1992 (a Gallery 400 exhibition organized by UIC alumni), public conversations, an alumni exhibition, BFA and MFA open studios, the opening of “Alien” a show organized by the Museum and Exhibition Studies program, the launch of Something Other press a micro imprint of the school inspired by the legacy of artist Dick Higgins, roving art historians, an ice cream social, and more.
NO CHILL embraces cold conceptualism, a notion that emerged at UIC almost two decades ago and thrown back now with a cool wink. To have “no chill,” is a natural response to the current moment, and we see this urgency and rage coursing through the halls and walls of our school.
Event schedule:
5pm-6pm- Conversation among UIC alumni and Video Game Art (VGA) Gallery founders and editor Chaz Evans, Jonathan Kinkley, and Tiffany Funk, held in Gallery 400 inside the exhibition Chicago New Media 1973-1992, whichchronicles the under-recognized story of Chicago's contributions to new media art and is organized by VGA Gallery. Evans, Kinkley and Funk will discuss their transitions from grad school to professional art and exhibition making, publishing, and running a flourishing non-profit art space.
