Calls for participation
This initiative showcases the work of UIC students. Co-organized by Gallery 400 and the School of Art & Art History UIC at Chica, this exciting public exhibition opportunity is open to all enrolled University of Illinois at Chicago BFA and MFA students. Once per semester, a current student is selected by the committee to exhibit a site-specific work on the front wall in the lobby of Art & Exhibition Hall.
Congratulations to Kathryn Morrison, BFA Art for the winning installation for Summer, 2016!
Please complete an application for a future Competition, and submit as a hard copy to Gallery 400 or electronically to gallery400@uic.edu.
The School of Art & Art History UIC at Chicago is looking for artists, technologists, musicians, curators, scholars, writers, urban agriculturalists, performers, system-thinkers, food artists, game-makers, and other ‘creatives’ and/or collaborative groups who are committed to exploring ways in which knowledge, technology, and fabrication skill can contribute to the arts, material research, education, engineering, design culture, and local community life. The Public Engagement Maker Residency at UIC is a unique opportunity for both emerging and experienced Makers to engage with diverse publics, share ideas, explore process and production, develop experimental works, problem solve, prototype, innovate, and bring people together.
Three-month Research Residencies and one-month Workshop Residencies are open to Chicago-area Makers.
Research Residencies will support new projects that require deep ‘thinkering’ including experimental research involving new technologies and materials, collaboration, and public outreach. Workshop Resi-dencies will support short-term craft, experiments in situation and process, and community outreach projects designed to engage with participants of all ages. Both Residencies offer the opportunity for Makers to engage in public practice through event-based discussions and exchanges, as well as the deployment of their work within community contexts.
