Anastasia Sitnikova is an interdisciplinary Chicago based artist with primary focus in sculpture and installation. Her art is much inspired by contradictions. Contradictions create tension, and tension is a form of energy. Even when it’s rested, it still has potential of creation or destruction. When something is in tension, it’s always an open-ended situation that includes many possible scenarios, interpretations and outcomes. Anastasia often uses things that don’t belong, taken out of their original context and forced together into an artificial harmony. In a way, this mimics a theatrical approach. Complicated ideas are simplified to the basic concepts, and those are exaggerated to dramatic effect.
