Pastel Fractal 7 was the seventh in an ongoing installation/performance series reiterating the same set of salvaged materials. It was a presentation of repurposed material innovation as well as an interactive sculpture and performance that processed information from viewers into dynamic live music in real time. Four machine interfaces branched out from the sculpture in a fractal geometric form that corresponded to the interfaces' places along the continuum of technology over time. Viewers were instructed to input through these interfaces by written prompts that refer to a continuum of accessibility in Chicago. By combining symbols of physical disability, obsolete technologies, direct prompts to Chicagoans, and experimental dance music, this iteration of Pastel Fractal was intended to inspire the artist and his neighbors to think critically about what technologies, products, and places enable creativity and the sharing of information.
