Faheem Majeed (Associate Director of the School of Art and Art History) and Lisa Junkin-Lopez (Director of Jane Addam's Hull House Museum and MUSE Adjunt Professor) speak on engaged museums at University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art.
The first panel on October 23 at 6:00 invites creative thinkers to explore the question: what is the one thing, above all others, that must sit at the heart of an engaged art museum?
Other panelists include:
* René De Guzman, Oakland Museum of California
* Carroll Joynes, Cultural Policy Center, The University of Chicago
* Elizabeth Merritt, Center for the Future of Museums, American Alliance of Museums
The Smart Museum’s 40th anniversary season is nestled within a period of tremendous debate over the function and future of museums. Questions of audience engagement and access, technology, institutional sustainability, cultural representation and authorship, creative placemaking, and responsible stewardship – all permeate the museum landscape.
